The Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA) is charged with coordinating responses to, and recovering from natural and man-made disasters. Ohio EMA staff work
to ensure that the State and its 11 million citizens are prepared to respond to emergencies and disasters and also work to lead mitigation efforts against the
effects of future disasters.
As the Governor's emergency management organization, Ohio EMA is responsible for activating and staffing the State of Ohio
Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC is where state officials gather to coordinate the state's response and provide
mutual aid resources.
Agency staff assisted in developing the 2006 Emergency Operations Plan which includes the new Human Infectious Disease
Annex. The EOP will be combined with Ohio Department of Health's Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response plan and will guide the state's response during an influenza
pandemic or any other infectious disease emergency.
Ohio EMA is assisting the ODH and other agencies in planning a response to a pandemic flu outbreak. During a pandemic flu outbreak, Ohio EMA
will interact with ODH's Departmental Operations Center.
